The Greek myth of Medusa is a clear representation of patriarchy and how it is not a fashion and its origin is ancestral. Medusa was raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple and upon discovering it, she turned her into a "monster" with snake hair and anyone who looked at her face would end up turned into stone. It was Perseus who decapitated Medusa while she was sleeping and gave her head to Athena after using it in her battles as a weapon.

We can see a clear parallel with what continues to happen today, revictimizing the victims of sexist violence, judging them for what they have suffered. Medusa experienced the injustices of being a woman. Raped by a God, she was banished and her story has been remembered placing her as an executor and murderer when she was clearly a victim. In the history of art, as well as in cinema, television, etc., this myth has been recreated, perpetuating the image of Medusa as a “bad woman.” The sculpture by Celini in 1554 is famous where he represents Perseus triumphant over the decapitated body of Medusa. In Perseus's hand we see her head high up, as a way of representing the power of the "Medici" family over the Florentine people at that time. In pictorial art, the representations of Bernini, Rubbens and the worst of all, Caravaggio as one of the bloodiest jellyfish were famous.

With this piece we want to pay tribute to the real figure of Medusa, a woman raped and convicted for it, murdered, and to vindicate once again the injustices suffered by women victims of sexist violence.
