The Ouija board was invented at the end of the 19th century, at the height of the rise of Spiritualism, a mass phenomenon that took place in the West. There are several versions regarding its creation and name, one of them states that the inventors of the game asked the spirits their name and they told them “ouija”, which came from ancient Egyptian and meant good luck.
