Meaning
The crystal ball, used for clairvoyance, is almost a popular icon in the current collective imagination about witches or fortune tellers and we have been able to see it in movies or cartoons and in recent years on t-shirts, banners, and other media, consumed by millennials.
The first balls were made of a green mineral called beryllium, which has a higher magnetic charge than other minerals and was better suited to connecting with the psychic energies of the moon. This ball was polished until it achieved reflective properties. It is believed that during the Middle Ages, the crystal ball was used as a magical instrument and also as an ostentatious fashion accessory.
In 1910 in North America, machines were created that contained mechanical characters with a crystal ball in their hands and that in exchange for a coin, claimed to predict your future (Zoltar). After the film Big in 1988, these machines rose again as well as the iconography of the crystal ball.
Today, the crystal ball is used by many clairvoyants along with other elements such as tarot or palmistry. It remains one of the iconic elements with which we associate spiritual mysticism.
